5 signs that your wedding shoes are going to hurt

On your wedding day, you have so many things to think about: the dress, the flowers, the bouquet, the guests… The last thing you need is to be calculating how long you can stand wearing your shoes. And although we sometimes insist on believing otherwise, there are signs you should look out for before the big day arrives.

Here are five signs to keep in mind before choosing your wedding shoes.

1. Your heel slips when you walk

If you notice your heel "floating" or slipping inside the shoe with your first steps, it won't get better after hours on your feet—it will get worse. That movement will lead to blisters by the second hour of partying.

2. The toe pinches, even "just a little"

A slight pinch in the toe at the store is almost always a real pinch on the dance floor three hours later. Your feet swell throughout the day—something that fits "just right" at 11 a.m. can be painful by 8 p.m.

3. The heel doesn't have a stable base

A very thin heel without a good weight distribution forces your foot to work extra hard with every step to maintain your balance—even if you don't notice it at first. That cumulative strain is what eventually takes its toll.

4. There's no cushioned insole

It may seem like a minor detail, but it's one of the things you'll notice most as the hours pass. Without even a little cushioning, every step on a hard floor (parquet, cobblestone, marble) is felt directly in the sole of your foot.

5. The material doesn't give or move with your foot

Some rigid materials need to be "broken in" before they feel comfortable—and a wedding is not the best day to break them in. Flexible, well-crafted leather adapts from the very first moment; rigid material does not.

What really matters

None of these signs have anything to do with design. A shoe can be beautiful while hiding one or more of these warning signs.

That's why at flordeasoka, we design with this first in mind—leather lining, a last designed for a real foot, a cushioned insole, and a heel crafted for stability—so you never have to recognize these signs in our shoes.
